Embroidery in India includes dozen of embroidery styles that vary by region and clothing styles. 
Designs in india embroidery are formed on the basis on the basis of the texture & the design of the fabric & The stitch. 


1. Aari of Jammu & kashmir .

Aari  is a traditional embroidery style from Jammu & kashmir. Aari work involves a hook, plied from the top but fed by silk thread from below with the material spread out on a frame. 
Aari Embroidery practiced Region in India. 

2. Banjara of Andhra pradesh :

It is a mix of applique with mirrors & beadwork. 


3. Banni or Heer Bharat of Gujrat : 

It is done with silk floss (Heer means "silk floss") & is famous for its vibrancy &richness in color pallets & design patterns, which include (mirror) work.
 

4. Chamba Rumal of Himachal Pradesh 

 It is an embroidered handicraft item of gift during marriages with detailed patterns in bright and pleasing colour schemes. 


5. Chikankari of Uttar Pradesh :

It was introduced by Nur Jahan, the wife of jahangir . It involves the use of white & other coloured thread on white muslin (Tanzeb), fine cotton (mulmud) , or voile.

6. Gotta work of Rajasthan :

Here, Small pieces of Zari ribbon are applied onto a fabric with the edges sewn down to create elaborate patterns. 


9. Kantha of West Bengal : 

It is also known as dorukha which mean the designs/ motifs are equally visible in both sides : so both sides are usable. 

10. Kathi of Gujrat :

It combines chain stitch , applique work & Mirror - like insertions. 

11. Kutch or Aribharat : 

It is named after the hooked needle which forms the chainstitch . 

12. Kutchi bharat / Sindhi stitch :

It is completely filled with interlacing 

13. Kashmiri : 

It is made with 1 or 2 embroidery stiches on a base of silk, wool & Cotton . 

14. Mukesh of Uttar Pradesh: 

It include women making shiny stitches amid chikan embroidery using a needle & long , thin strips. of metal , 

15. Phool patti ka kaam :

16. Phulkari of punjab & Haryana : 

It uses a darn stitch done from the wrong side of the fabric using darning needles, leaving a long stitch below to form the basic pattern. 


17. Pichwai of Rajasthan :

This Colourful embroidery has the cental themes focus on Lord Krishna .  

18. Pipli : 

Here, Brightly coloured & Patterned fabric pieces are sewn together on a plain background mostly velvet along 

19. Rabari of Gujrat :

Here, Mirrors of all shapes & sizes are incorporated , as it is believed that mirrors protect from evil spirits. 


20. Shamilami : 

A combination of weaving & embroidery & was once a high status symbol. 


21. Shisha or Mirrorwork :

It involves little pieces of mirror in various sizes which are encased in the decoration of the fabric first by interlacing threads and them with buttonhole stitch. 


22. Toda : 

It has red & Black bands between which the embroidery is done. 

23. Zardozi : 

Here, the thread consists of coiled metal wires placed on the right side of the fabric and couched with a thinner thread.
